  • We had the discipline assembly today during 1st period.  After that, students practiced opening their lockers.

  • Students had time to work on the IXLs they need to complete.  Also, if they needed to finish copying down the Guided Notes from yesterday.
  • Students were assigned the following Moby Max Lessons:  To access these, go to the Reading Skills Literature tab FIRST.  Then you will see the lessons.

  • We began reading Out of the Dust
  • Students filled in the reading guide as they read (attached). They read through pg. 20.
  • ING Entry #3:  Extreme Weather Narrative...students began drafting today.  We will write this entirely in class over the next week or so.

Thursday

  • Daily vocabulary:  intrepid
  • Students continued drafting their extreme weather narratives with a focus of incorporating dialogue.  See the attachment for a the model Mrs. Penick showed to students today.
  • Students read through pg. 27 in Out of the Dust.  They filled in their Reading Guide answers as they read.

  • Students continued narrative drafts with a focus on:

1.  Change at least 4 simple sentences to compound sentences.  Highlight or underline in BLUE.  Students could use Guided Notes for this.

2.  Change at least 4 dull sentences to "better" sentences by adding vivid adjectives and verbs.  Show me, don't tell me. Highlight or underline in GREEN.

  • We continued to read in Out of the Dust.

  • Students finished reading the Scope article multiple choice and constructed response question (turned in).
  • Students were able to continue reading in OOTD and complete the questions they needed to on the reading guide.
  • Symbolism in OOTD...poppies.  Students wrote Six-Word poems about the symbolism of poppies in the novel.
