Informative Essay Rubric
Due Date : Friday, Jan. 15, 2021
Format : MLA (see handout for MLA formatting instructions and guidelines)
Length : 5 paragraphs
Topic: Famous Prisoners of War (POW)
Choose from : Louie Zamperini, John McCain, Jessica Lynch, or Bowe Bergdahl
Paragraph 1 : introduction (5 – 7 sentences). Introduce the topic of your essay, the person you chose and give some brief information to set up your essay. The last sentence of this paragraph should be your Thesis Statement – informing the reader of your topic and the POW you chose.
Paragraph 2 : military service/background/career/how they chose that branch of military (5 – 7 sentences)
Paragraph 3 : life in the POW camp and info on that camp/war time era (5 – 7 sentences)
Paragraph 4 : info on the POW regarding how they were released from the POW camp and how life was for them post-release (5 – 7 sentences)
Paragraph 5 : conclusion (5 – 7 sentences). Wrap everything up in this paragraph. Restate the topic, provide a brief overview of what the essay was about.
